Wayne Ray “Butch” Bauer
August 30, 1953-February 20, 2025
Wayne Ray “Butch” Bauer, 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Tx, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born August 30, 1953 in San Antonio, TX, to Harvey and Adal (Mueller) Bauer. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Schwab), children Shannon (Jenny), Sheila (Bradley), and Justin (Katlin); his five grandchildren, Payton, Brayden, Jamie, Paxton, and Jayden; nephews Doug, Pat, Ronnie and niece Kristi; many cousins; and Sister In-Law, Sue Schwab. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Adal, brothers Rodney “Pete” and Harvey “Buddy” Bauer, along with In-Laws, Monroe and Vera Schwab, and Brother In-Law, Larry Schwab.
Wayne loved his family and friends immensely, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, BBQing, cooking, gardening, being outdoors, and always fixing and working on things in his garage. Wayne never met a stranger; loved to strike up conversations with people, especially over a cold beer. If you ever heard one of his stories or conversations about life, you would know why so many people loved him. Wayne loved to help anyone out whether by conversation or a helping hand.
Wayne grew up in San Antonio, TX, but moved with his parents and brothers to New Braunfels after he graduated from Holmes High School. He was a volunteer firefighter for the San Antonio Northwest Fire Department and New Braunfels Fire Department. Wayne retired from the Coleman Company, Comal County Road Department, and was a Senior Director for the Comal County Fair Association. He loved being retired and spent as much time as he could with his family and friends. When not at home, he volunteered at the Elks Lodge #2279 and the American Legion Post #179 in New Braunfels. Wayne loved to have his family and friends over to his home for a BBQ and celebrations. He enjoyed traveling to Minnesota for vacations and visiting other states. Wayne lived his life to the fullest and always made sure his family and friends knew how much he loved and cared for them.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Elks Lodge #2279 or the American Legion Post 179 both located in New Braunfels, TX.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later time.
Waiting on particulars. Sorry to learn about Wayne.

To Joyce & Justin & your families my deepest heartfelt sympathies to yall. Wayne was the lightness & the fun to many events. We had the best time at the cook offs and when I moved and came back that way he always ready to give me a big bear hug & a kiss on the cheek & then buy me a beer. He was the warmest, goofiest & loyal friend my family could ever have had. He & Joyce were there for our family when we lost mom & dad. Thank you for sharing your father with the Tausch girls. He was truly the best ❤️
We are so sorry for your loss.
May the Lord give you the strength to keep going. I know your family and friends will be there for you. We will also be here; if you need anything!
Praying for you and your family.
