Wanda L. Heinzmann

Wanda Heinzmann, 89, passed peacefully from her earthly life to eternal life on November 5, 2021 in Spring Branch, Texas with her daughter by her side following a brief battle with cancer. Wanda was born in Oklahoma in 1932 to B.C. (Jack) and Effie Crabtree. The family moved to southern Illinois where she went to school, graduating from Carlyle High School and attending Southern Illinois University. In 1951, she married Herbert Heinzmann in Carlyle, Illinois and became a military spouse as he became an Army officer. They later settled in Carlyle and she partnered with her husband in several businesses which included a mosaic tile shop in Arizona and opening the Hi-De-Ho Restaurant in Carlyle, She was supportive of her husband’s career as a bank president and excelled as a homemaker with a flair for interior decorating, home design, cooking and baking, as well as being a devoted mother to their daughter, Heidi. She was known for her sense of style, elegance and beauty and held the title of Peach Queen and Dairy Queen, among others. She was also a talented musician perhaps best known for her wonderful singing voice, starting at the age of four. She sang as a soloist and with choirs and ensembles throughout her life, with a wide repertoire that ranged from a western yodel to operatic soprano. Wanda and Herb retired to Arizona, where Herb passed in 1992. She moved from Arizona to Texas in 2008 with her daughter and son-in-law where she enjoyed exploring the Hill Country. She was an active member of Bethel Methodist Church of The Hill Country. She was predeceased by her husband Herb, her parents Jack and Effie Crabtree; and her brother Jim in 1950. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Heinzmann Hawkins and favorite son-in-law, Jerry Hawkins; sister Kathleen (Rob) Childers; brother Jerry Crabtree; brother Gary Crabtree; nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration Of Life Memorial will be planned for a future date yet to be determined.
