Wanda Cano

Wanda D. Cano, 66, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025. Wanda was born on May 27, 1958 in Abilene, Texas to Spruce and Dorthy Derden.

Wanda’s first job was at a Coca-Cola plant, where she grew to love the Coca-Cola memorabilia that she would collect for the rest of her life. She retired in 2022 after 26 years with AT&T.

Wanda grew up bowling with her family and friends in Abilene, and she met her eventual husband at the lanes. They continued to bowl together for many years until the birth of their daughter, Cori, in 1995. After that, they took up golfing, and they were often cheered on in their couples’ tournaments by their beloved child riding alongside in the golf cart. She shared a love of all things Disney with her family, especially Winnie the Pooh and Dumbo, and Disney World was a frequent vacation spot. In later years, she enjoyed nothing more than sitting in her favorite chair, spoiling her daughter, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and dogs. It was a simple, happy life, and it was all she ever wanted.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Hazel Young. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Rudy Cano; daughter, Cori Love and husband, Matt; Melissa Cano; grandchildren, Hayden Cano, Harley Cano, and Brett Walls; and siblings, Spruce Derden, Jr. and wife LaVeda and David Derden and wife, Kandy.

Funeral Services will be held at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2025. Graveside services will be at 9:15 AM on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
