Samuel “Walter” Hanover, Jr.

November 6, 1943 – March 14, 2025

Samuel, 81, better known as Walter or Opa, passed away peacefully at his home in Bandera, Texas surrounded by his family.

Born on November 6, 1943 in Jacksonville, Texas to his parents Samuel Walter Hanover, Sr. and Marjorie Louise Stevens, Walter attended Canyon High School in New Braunfels. He proudly enlisted and served in the Marine Corps in September of 1966 and was deployed for two tours in the Vietnam war before his honorable discharge in 1970.

Walter was a loving and caring husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. A veteran of the Vietnam War with endless stories to tell, he was and always will be a proud Marine who did his part to serve and protect his country.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel Walter Hanover, Sr. and Marjorie Stevens, sister: Nancy Percival, brother: Bobby Hanover, and loving wife: Kathleen Hanover.

Left to cherish his memories are his beloved son: Keith Hanover, wife Michelle and grandchildren Colten (wife Erin), Caitlyn, and Cade. Son: Kyle Hanover, wife Brianna and grandchildren: Bryce, Malory and Jett. Daughter: Susan Acker and grandchildren: Tara, Clinton, Connor and Tad. Brother: Joe Hanover and wife Cindy.

Funeral services will be held at Lux Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11:00am followed by burial at his final resting place in the mausoleum at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery with the love of his life.
