Larry Geers

larry geers

Larry was born August 19th, 1958 to his parents Henry and Mary Frances Geers in Quincy, Illinois. Mary and Hank had seven children with Larry being the baby.

Their house was full of energy and love, such a large family with so many stories of growing up together. As the youngest of seven, he saw his siblings head off on their own journeys and build their own families. He was ready for an adventure when he left home. Larry followed his brother, Michael, into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1976. He sailed the seas on the U.S.S. Midway as a photo reconnoissance operator and sat off the coast of Iran for many months ready for war. Nothing happened on the Midway so he came home when the Iran conflict was over.

He liked to say his life began on June 20th, 1980 when he met his future wife, Susan Warlaumont, in Mission Viejo, CA. After dating for a year, he proposed and they were married on May 8th, 1982. We enjoyed our first few years of marriage together, then we started building our family with Jamie, Patrick and Mary. I think Larry’s greatest joy was watching our kids grow into fine adults they are now.

He was a great mentor to all of his children. He went to as many marching band competitions and track meets as he could for our children to show how proud he was of them. At the same time, he was working so hard in the technology industry, flying all around the world for meetings with his customers and partners. Then he retired, he really had time to enjoy his life and family. I once asked him what was his greatest times were, and they were being a dad, scoutmaster, grandpa, and an amazing husband. Larry was a force of nature, with his energy and compassion for others. He had the heart of a lion, a true Leo. That was our special guy. We will miss him dearly. He finally retired in the last year, and we had a chance to be just us. It was like dating again, it was wonderful. We traveled, he loved snorkeling in Hawaii, sightseeing and watching his favorite baseball team, the Dodgers. Overall, the most important thing in his life was his family. God bless you.

You will be missed my love.

From the love of your life,
Susan
