John Herry Scheffel Sr.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our father and grandfather, John Herry Scheffel, Sr., who left us on January 21, 2025 at the age of 79.

John lived most of his life on Lake Dunlap here in New Braunfels. He made friends early on at the lake through boating and waterskiing. He was an amazing slalom skier and spent many of his days challenging the slalom course set up on the water. In his early days, he met and married Karen, fathered two children, Johnny and Susan, and owned a gift store in Seguin. He continued to build homes with his father, Fritz, before enjoying the rest of his days at the lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz Sr. and Doris Scheffel, and his brothers Fritz Jr. and Paul Scheffel.

John is survived by his children and their spouses, Johnny and Kama Scheffel and Susan and Rick Purdy, and his grandchildren, Chance Purdy, Payton Purdy, Annie Scheffel Ivy, Olivia Scheffel, Ryker Purdy, and Denver Scheffel. There will be a small family celebration of life by the lakeshore this Spring.
