Maria Fabian

Maria Fabian, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with our Lord on March 26, 2025, at the age of 86. She devoted her life to faith, family, and service, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.

Born in 1938 in Moldova, former republic of the Soviet Union, Maria faced the trials of Communist persecution for her unwavering belief in God, a faith that remained steadfast throughout her life. She was baptized in the Eastern Orthodox church but, at the age of two, she and her family were declared “enemy of the state” by the Russian regime, mainly because of their faith, and shipped off to Siberia to a “Gulag.” For sixteen years, they were imprisoned, tortured, and persecuted for their faith. By the grace of God and with the help of our Blessed Virgin Mary, whose picture the family smuggled and kept throughout their captivity, their faith in our Lord remained strong and unwavering. Maria made it her life’s mission to pass down her faith to her two children and grandchildren. Despite poverty and many struggles, she lived out the Beatitudes, showing immense strength, piety, humility, selflessness, and unbreakable faith. She embodied mercy, peacemaking, and a pure heart, touching many lives with her compassion and wisdom.
In 2010, she moved to New Braunfels, Texas, to be close to her daughter and granddaughter. Her last years were filled with peace and joy in being with family. More than anything, she found her greatest joy in raising and caring for her three great-grandchildren, spending each day nurturing and loving them.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Maria Williams and husband Stone; granddaughter Lilia Marek, husband Paul, and great-grandchildren Liana, Maia, and Luke; granddaughter Tatiana Fabian, husband Victor, and great-grandson Sorin; grandson Sergiu, wife Ana, and great-grandson Andrei; and sister Ana Tricolici. She is preceded in death by her parents Ion and Anastasia Costandachi; siblings Elena and Victor Costandachi; husband Constantin Fabian; and beloved son Ion “Vanea” Fabian.

Maria’s life was a reflection of grace, resilience, and love. Her warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
