Gloria Mendez-Murphy

Gloria Margarita Mendez-Murphy (age 65) of San Antonio passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 05, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas after a decade’s battle with COPD. She was born March 21, 1959, in Alice, Texas, a beloved daughter to the late Guadalupe and Margarita Mendez. Gloria leaves behind her only daughter Melody Murphy of Austin, Texas, her brothers Luis (Mary Alice) Mendez of Houston, Texas, Guadalupe Mendez Jr. of Kingsville, Texas, her sisters Sylvia Garza of Carrollton, Texas, Elvira Burns of San Antonio, Texas, and Linda (Mark) Johns of San Marcos, California. Additionally, many nephews and nieces and grand nephews and nieces also survive her.

She is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, Guadalupe and Margarita Mendez, her nephew Christopher Johns, and her grand-nephew Anthony Xavier Ramirez.

Gloria was talented at every endeavor she tried. Early on she was a cheerleader and a drum major. Gloria was also very talented in music and was an all state clarinet player in high school. She followed a college stint in Corpus Christi with a move to Austin Texas where she married and had her only child. Because Gloria loved music, she fittingly named her Melody.

Gloria used her great intellect to become a medical transcriptionist where she learned her extensive knowledge of medical terms and illnesses.

Though Gloria’s physical presence is no longer with us, she will forever be cherished and remembered.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Iglesia Shalom (16320 Huebner Rd.) in San Antonio, Texas.
