Eugene Roussin, II

eugene roussin, ii

May 5, 1940 ~ November 26, 2023

Born in: Fall River, MA
Resided in: New Braunfels, TX

Eugene Roussin, II, a resident of New Braunfels, passed away unexpectedly at home early Sunday morning, November 26, 2023 at the age of 83. Gene, the oldest of five, was born on May 5, 1940 in Fall River, MA to the late Louis Roussin and Hilda Bettencourt Roussin. He worked his entire career for Raytheon, starting as a stockboy at the age of 16, working his way through college and earning his MBA (all part time while raising our family), until his retirement in his early 60s. After retirement Gene and Phyllis, his beloved wife, made their way down to New Braunfels from Massachusetts to enjoy the warmer climate and great music. Once in New Braunfels he picked up a hobby of working for the Wingate Hotel where his life was much enriched by the staff he worked with and the many regular clients who became a second family.
Dad/Papa, more than anything, was defined by his love for our family. He deeply loved our mother, Phyllis who passed in October 2019. He loved her until his last breath. A love affair that started in 1959 when he was just 19. Dad also had boundless love for his kids –John, Donna, Eugene III, Michael, Lisa, Phillip, Claudine, and Kimberley. Always ready with a quick wit, a funny one liner, and a helping hand. He loved to be needed by all of us. His purpose in life was to care for all who he loved. But, above all, Papa had a sweet spot for the little ones. And lucky for him our large family kept him supplied with oodles of grandchildren, and, more recently, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Lux Funeral Home. Dad/Papa wasn’t much for flowers (one of his great lines, delivered with a wry grin, was “what do I need flowers for, I have all you blooming idiots?!”), so in lieu, please remember him when you are enjoying live music at Gruene Hall, or when you hear Don Williams on the radio, or each time you hear “Waltz Across Texas”. Come help us say goodbye to the man with the tightest bear hug you could imagine while he is surrounded by his blooms one last time.

  8. Your passing has left a void that words cannot fill. The cherished memories we created together will forever be treasured in my heart. From our joyous drives around New Braunfels in the jeep rental, to our delightful lunches at the Gristmill, each moment spent with you was a gift.

Your wisdom, especially our talks about understanding a profit and loss statement, has been invaluable in shaping my perspective on business. These lessons and moments are not just memories; they are the legacy you’ve left with me.

You will be deeply missed, but your love and guidance continue to light my way.

    Rest in peace, Papa.
